I have just received a call on my home landline from an Asian gentleman saying he was from a pc company and that I had a problem with my pcs.
He proceeded to say that did I have a Windows XP, Vista or 7 OS..... wow good guess seeing not many people use Linux or Apple at home!!
I told him I didn't have any problems and if I did, I am quite pc literate and can sort my own technical problems out. He said that I wasn't aware of what he was aware of and that if I didn't listen he would have to cut me off from the 'server'... didn't he mean cut my broadband off? If that is waht he meant the only company that could do that is my broadband supplier whom he wasn't from.
When he realised I wasn't falling for his scam he became quite hostile to which I responded, he even said why was I being so aggressive!!!! Maybe because I knew this was a scam to say that my pc's were infected with a virus and then try and charge me an outrage fee to remove the virus using freely available software.
Fortunately I am aware of these scams and wouldn't have fallen for this as I maintain the pc's myself, but what about people who are not IT literate?
Part of me enjoys these cold calls as I have no problem being rude to them, but it does become tiresome when you realise that many innocent people will fall prey to their devious deception.
